2013 Harborfest children`s musical now in rehearsal

Written by

Area students ages 8 through 16 will comprise the cast in this year's youth musical to be presented during Harborfest 2013.

The production, "Ellis Island ... The American Dream," by Cheryl Kemeny, follows the adventures and struggles of European immigrants who are searching for a better life in "the land of the free." The musical will be under the direction of Bobbie Palange and Rocky Farden. It is sponsored by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and will be performed in The Palladium-Times' tent in the Novelis Family Park at Franklin Square Park.
"The musical will entertain and delight our audiences while reminding us all of the heroic people, our own ancestors, who built this great country," Farden said. "The storyline follows several families and young people from Italy, Ireland, Germany and Russia. They endure storms at sea, hunger and discomfort on the voyages and then are faced with a final hurdle; the scrutiny of the American officials at Ellis Island. Who among them will pass through the gates at Ellis Island and realize the American dream?" The production includes songs and dances, humor and drama.
The adventure begins in 1907 in Naples, Italy, Hamburg, Germany and Queenstown, Ireland, simultaneously. People from all over Europe are purchasing "one-way tickets" to America. The immigrants board their respective ships ... the Bel Italia, the Deutschland and the King James. They are then faced with a terrible storm and Neptune Furies.
Alphabetical cast of Ellis Island includes: Nathaniel Ahart, Kyra Baker, Cassandra Barker, Kayla Beall, Tia Bevacqua, Andrew Bornheimer, Laura Bornheimer, Mary Bornheimer, Lucy Canale, Ben Chatterton, Ava Clooonan, Jeremy Crisafulli, Olivia DeLorenzo, Claudia Engle, Sarah Fisch, Mark Forger, Emily Gerth, Katie Gerth, Michael Gerth, Cameron Gower, Justin Grower, Raiden Hansen, Brianna Harrington, Justin Hatch, Emalee Herring-ton, Audrey Hinman, Caleb Iozzio, Hannah Iozzio, Ashley Johnson, Caitlyn Kerst, Mya Kinder, Rachel Krul, Rachel Leotta, Kaila Loadwick, Sarah Martin, Miranda Miller, Ashley Mills, Leah Mullen, Megan Murtha, Ben Norton, Emily Oldenberg, Matthew Olden-berg, Zeida Olsen, Bailey Robinson, Aubrey Ruggio, Alex Salm, Morgan Samson, Doug Schneider, Glenn Sharkey, Nikita Sharkey, Kate Shene, Samuel Spaulding and Trent Wilkinson.
