2SongBirds presents Rockabilly benefit for Oswego boy

Written by

2SongBirds is teaming up with the Ancient Order of Hibernians to host a benefit show for an 8-year-old battling cancer.

Creators of 2SongBirds, Jerritt Wahrendorf and Megan Colliano, heard about Trevor Mercier's situation through a friend, which ultimately led to the two planning a benefit in his honor.

The rockabilly event will take place at 2 p.m., July 20, with doors opening at 1 p.m. 2SongBirds booked two nationally acclaimed musicians to play at the benefit. Local musician Dave Hawthorn is set to play at 6 p.m. along with Hillbilly Casino at 7 p.m. Food, drink, and entertainment will be the sold throughout the event.

"We're having bacon wrapped wings, fire roasted or regular wings for $10 tickets plus a $10 ticket for the show with the proceeds going straight to Trevor," Wahrendorf said. "There's also an advanced "VIP" option which includes wings, a free concert poster and a meet and greet session with the members of Hillbilly Casino."

According to Wahrendorf, Mercier is a typical 8-year-old boy who loves fishing, being outside and playing with his dog. Mercier was diagnosed with cancer when he was 4 years old when he was diagnosed with Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma. Since then, Mercier was cancer free for four years until one day the brain tumor came back. Mercier is now dealing with cancer treatments every two weeks alongside his family.

Sponsors from all over the community came together to help out the benefit in any way possible. Businesses such as Rudy's Lakeside, Greene's Ale House, Gibby's Irish Pub and Midnight Sun have pulled together to help sell tickets and sponsor the event. Advance tickets can be purchased through Greene's, Midnight Sun and Woodchuck Saloon.

Join 2Songbirds as they put on their last show of the summer and help out a person in need.

"As of right now we will not be hosting any more shows...maybe some benefits down the line... (and) looking into doing more formal catering," Wahrendorf explained.
