AAO announces classes, events for June

     The Art Association of Oswego (AAO) announced the following classes and events for June:

WORKSHOP: Living the Writer's Life

     So, you want to be a writer? Join Jill Luigs as she takes you through four weeks of exercises and timed writings to open your mind to create worlds you didn't know existed. Based on the teachings of Natalie Goldberg's "Wild Mind," this course will help your inner writer gladly emerge. By the end of the course, writers should have plenty of material to turn into short stories or a novel.

Age and/or skill level: Adult (16+)
Class size limit: 8
Date(s): There will be three sessions of this course; each session will be a total of 12 hours at three-hours/session:
Wednesdays:
June 5-26
July 10-31
Aug. 7-28
Location: Classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the AAO, Fort Ontario Complex (north end of E 4th St), Oswego.
Cost: $72 for AAO members; $84 for non-members for each session.
Instructor: Jill Luigs has been involved in the arts since the 70s with a bachelor's in English and graduate studies in creative writing. Her first novel, "Healing Grace," was published in 2010. She has participated and facilitated in writer critique groups and writer workshops since 1995 in Denver and Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and Oswego and Auburn, New York.

WORKSHOP: Art Postcards

     Local artists Sandra Dowie and Marcella Slater are offering a workshop at their Fire Fly Studio to facilitate the creative process for making these 4" x 6" pieces of art (i.e. painting, drawing, collage, stamping, metalwork, ceramic, beading, etc.). Postcards made in this workshop may be submitted to the second annual Postcard Salon (July 20 from 7-9 p.m., during the Annual Members' Show opening reception) or may be kept by the person who creates them.

     Postcards that are submitted to the Salon will be sold off the wall in clear plastic bags for $10 each; $5 goes to the artist & $5 goes to the AAO, unless you would like to donate the entire proceeds.

MEETING:  Watercolor Painting Sharing Network

   Robert Jones, of Oswego, took a few watercolor classes this past year and found it so much fun and challenging, he and some of the other participants in the class formed a Watercolor Painting Sharing Network group.

Goals:
• Make time to work on a watercolor project
• Share resources and techniques with one another
• Share work completed
• Help one another with issues, frustrations, suggestions and encouragements"

Meeting date: Thursday, June 20
Time: 6-9 p.m.
Location: AAO – Fort Ontario Complex (north end of East Fourth St.), Oswego.
Cost: None - AAO would welcome any donations from the group

RECEPTION: "Eight by Ten" Exhibition – eight works each of photography by 10 local artists.
 A reception for this gallery opening will be held from 7-9 p.m., Saturday, June 15, and is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served.
     Gallery hours are from 2-5 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays (or by appointment otherwise) through July 7, and is free and open to the public.
NOTE: Gallery attendant volunteers are needed!
