Two AmeriCorps programs administered by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau are currently accepting applications.
“AmeriCorps, a national service program, is known as the domestic Peace Corps,” Brian Chetney, Youth Bureau director, said. “Currently we have openings in Oswego County for 900-hour positions in the Oswego AmeriCorps and the Oswego Economic Development Corps. The positions will vary in length from six to 12 months, depending on the needs of the sponsoring agency.”

AmeriCorps members can receive forbearance on qualified student loans. If the term of service is completed successfully, all or part of the interest that accrued during the term can be paid by the National Service Trust. Individuals who are 55 or older at the start of their AmeriCorps term of service can transfer their education award to children or grandchildren.
