Come support the Healthy Baby Expo April 20, 2013, at the YMCA Armory to kick off the Great Cloth Diaper Change event.

Oswego is holding the third annual Great Cloth Diaper Expo to break the Guinness World Record along with three other countries in 180 locations.

The Great Cloth Diaper is an international event that takes place on the same date across the world. Lisa Emmons, owner of Mother Earth Baby, will be running Oswego's Great Cloth Diaper Change for her first time. Emmons' store has recently relocated and is now open for business at 70 W. Bridge St. The store moved from West First Street in order to expand the size of the business, according to Emmons.
Guinness World Records set the rule that each location participating will begin exactly at 11 a.m. along with a witness for each location. Oswego Mayor Thomas Gillen will be serving as a witness to the event.
"Our main goal is to help raise awareness for reusable diapers and to build a community while providing a fun event for people to attend," Emmons said.
The event took place last year with 25 mothers or fathers and babies (pairs) as participants. Worldwide, the Great Cloth Diaper Change broke a record of 8,251 diapers changed simultaneously at more than 189 locations in 11 countries. Oswego's goal this year is to double from 25 pairs to 50 pairs.
"The day begins at 11 a.m. exactly with pairs (parent and baby) lined up. It usually takes about five minutes for them to get changed," Emmons said. "This year the YMCA contributed a bounce house. We're having food donated and will also be giving away raffles from the donations we receive."
Participants will be paired with at least one baby and will have them wearing a reusable, cloth diaper. These diapers can be bought online or through the wide variety of diapers at Mother Earth Baby. Good bags and raffle donations will also be given away at the event, according to Emmons.
The sponsors who are already helping out this event are Keech Photography, Precision and Sign Graphics. Other community partners include the YMCA and I Heart Oswego and some of the recent vendors are Oswego Hospital, Pizza Villa and The March of Dimes.
