Members of the Oswego City School District’s Athletics Department are making their impact felt outside the gym this holiday season as student-athletes and coaches are pitching on service and charity efforts throughout their community.

Bucs from all sports have been involved in the effort, said OCSD Director of Physical Education and Athletics Rhonda Bullard.

“We wanted to do this as an athletic program because all of our coaches and students are so invested in our community. We wanted to give back and everyone’s been really enjoying it,” said Bullard during Friday’s presentation of dozens of items for an “Adopt-A-Family” donation at Frederick Leighton Elementary School.

Members of the OHS Wrestling Team worked late into Friday evening at the Salvation Army’s Oswego Food Pantry, packing hundreds of boxes of non-perishable foods as the organization prepares for one of its busiest times of the year.

“We couldn’t be more proud of all our student-athletes and coaches for all their hard work,” said OHS Principal Patrick Wallace. “Our Athletics Department always represents our school with the highest honor and regard and this is another example of their fine character.”

Four Buccaneer athletes were also recently honored by the Syracuse Post-Standard for its All-Central New York Volleyball teams.

Seniors Adeline Benjamin and Laurin Furlong were selected for the All-CNY Girls Team, joined by Seniors Jason Proud and Kyle Kon for the Boys Team.
