Lisa Sova, of Canale Insurance & Accounting, jumped into dancing with both feet,—even though she’s never danced before—to help Oswego County Habitat For Humanity.

“I was a cheerleader, but I never danced,” Sova said. “Chelsea Wahrendorf, an instructor at Studio C Dance Academy, asked me to participate and I said yes. My partner was Charles Kengah, who represented Performance Fitness Kyokoshin Karate.”

The event was March 24 and 25 at The American Foundry. Six couples competed for dancing honors, and to see who could raise the most money. The special judge for the evening was Tony Dovolani, from ABC’s Dancing With The Stars.

Lisa SovaSova said it was a great experience learning the dance routines and it even helped her with her job. “I just wanted to go and have fun while helping a great cause,” she said. “But I also met a lot of new business contacts and expanded my network while fundraising.”

Sova, a native of Dallas and a resident of Oswego for the past nine years, said she helps support the accounting side with taxes and tax preparation at Canale. She also, however, consults with small businesses to help them set up accounting software, or possibly a better office management system that could help them streamline expenses and get a better return during tax season.

Debbie Anderson, executive director, Oswego County Habitat for Humanity, said that the Studio C Dance Academy and their staff donate their services to train the couples who compete. “The girls (at Studio C) do not earn a penny,” she said. “They donate all their time as well as the dancers.”

Competitors this year, in addition to Sova and Kengah, included: Sean Fox and Jennifer Snow representing Crossfit Under pressure with coach Stefanie Standish, owner of Studio C Dance Academy.

Rich BurrittRich and Britanee Burritt represented Burritt Motors and their coach was Chelsea Wahrendorf.

Mike Vanhorn and Caitlin Aramburu represented Novelis with coach Audrey Standish; Tim DuShane and Kyleigh Kinney represented Debbie's Place, with coach Rachel Standish; Robin Scarantino and Alicia Saya, represented Oswego County Federal Credit Union and Saya was their coach.

Friday night dance winners were Jennifer Snow and Sean Fox, and the fundraising winners were Mike Van Horn and Caitlin Aramburu.

Saturday night winners were Rich and Britanee Burritt, dancing; overall fundraising winners were Mike Vanhorn and Caitlin Aramburu; and the overall grand champions for both nights were the Burritts.
