Aspiring playwrights still have a chance to enter their work in the annual Don McCann Memorial Playwriting Contest.

The contest is sponsored by the Oswego Players every year in memory of the late Don McCann, who was a long time newspaper reporter with the Oswego Palladium Times, as well as wonderful director, actor, and administrator with the Oswego Players.

The contest opened May 15 with June 15 set as the deadline for submissions. The winner will be announced at a future Oswego Players meeting, and the play chosen will be performed sometime in later in the season.

The rules for this year's contest are as follows: 

1.An annual cash prize will be awarded annually for the one act plays submitted and
judged best out of those received.

2. If time permits, the winning play will be produced and presented at a meeting of the Oswego Players, Inc.,

4. All plays must be submitted electronically by June 15 of the contest year to:

6. All entries must include a cover letter that includes the name of the play, name of the playwright, address, phone number and email address. The writer of the winning play automatically gives permission for the Oswego Players, Inc. to make copies of the script for rehearsal proposes if the play is produced.

7. Submitted scripts must conform to standard playwriting script formats.  If submitted scripts do not conform to standards they will not be considered for the contest.

8. All plays must be original concepts (no adaptations and no verse plays), unpublished and otherwise unproduced.

9. Script guidelines:

One act, single set, with a fun time of 20-30 minutes.
No more than eight characters.
Production should be written so it can be staged with minimal set.
The content, theme and time period of the play is up to the playwright.

10.  The playwright must be a central New York resident.
