Dennis J. McDermott, 66 and a resident of Oswego passed away Thursday evening at his home.

He was born in Oswego and was the son of Alma Gillen McDermott and the late James McDermott.

Dennis was employed for many years as an electrician on various local construction projects and retired as Assistant Business Manager with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 43. Mr. McDermott served many years as a Trustee and President of his Local. He also was a member of the City of Oswego Electrical Board and the Workforce Development Board of Oswego County.

Dennis was well known around town for his years as a catcher for both baseball and softball starting with Little League, playing on his High School baseball team and finally for the Oswego City Softball League being inducted into the Oswego Softball Hall of Fame in 2008. He then switched to golf which he enjoyed as a member of the Oswego Country Club serving on the Board of Directors and was Past President.

His passion for music and playing the guitar was more personal but almost as great as his love of playing baseball. As the song goes, ”If there’s a rock and roll heaven, Well you know they've got a hell of a band” and a new member.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie Guntrum McDermott, his mother, Alma McDermott of Oswego, one brother Daniel (Cheryl) McDermott of  Danville, CA and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father he was predeceased by a brother Donald McDermott.

Calling hours will be Wednesday 4-7PM at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday 9:30AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the Oswego Country Club at 11AM following the cemetery service. Please join us to share remembrances of Dennis.
