Maselli said she has received so much joy by watching students learn, grow and succeed since she has taught physical education at Granby for the past four years. Having taught special education and science within the Fulton City School District before, Maselli said she has found her niche and true love with teaching physical education.
“In the gym, I have them when they come in kindergarten,” she said. “They’ll have a different teacher next year, but they’ll always have me here. I am so grateful.”
Maselli said while it is nice and humbling to be recognized for hard work, the true reward is continuously being able to see students overcome challenges, believe in themselves and find joy in fitness.
“We set goals, worked hard to meet them, encourage each other, build character, discover ourselves and have fun in the process,” she said. “We learn, grow, improve and strive for excellence. They impress me every day. It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to push them into fitness, health and in character to be the best they can be.”
As an annual attendant to the NYSAHPERD conference, Maselli said she had always soaked in all the information learned. She also has presented at zone conferences, attends as many as she is permitted and has presented on professional development opportunities within the Fulton City School District. She also has hosted fitness nights at Granby, attended and hosted after0school events, helped implement the school’s physical education hall of fame, assisted with the pilot of the region’s Healthy Highway program at Granby and she is currently organizing the CNY zone’s inaugural Leadership Awards program this year.
Everything she does, Maselli said, is for the kids. The creation of a safe, fun environment for all students is one of the many reasons she enjoys going to work each day.
Maselli thanked FCSD Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Christopher Ells for his support and encouragement. She also thanked her family and colleagues for helping her build a good foundation within Granby and the school district.
