He was born on Jan 28, 1996 to John Dunsmoor and Judy Queale-Dunsmoor.
Garrett graduated from Oswego High School in 2014, as a high honor student and a three sport athlete. He loved commentating on the WBUC television station and participating in the debate club and National Honor Society. He had also enjoyed his freshman year at Christian Brothers Academy.
He graduated cum laude from St. Lawrence University in May 2018 with a BA in Rhetoric/Communications & Business. He earned the Presidential Scholarship over all four years, and a place on the Liberty League All-Academic Team for Lacrosse. He was inducted into the National College Athlete Honors Society for being an outstanding student athlete who excels in the classroom, in their sport, and in the community. Garrett was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, Male Athletes Against Sexual Violence, and SLU Student Government. He was proud to be a defensive back on the varsity football team for two years and a defenseman on the varsity lacrosse team for all four years. In sports and in life, Garrett was a true teammate—giving his all while bringing out the best in those around him.
In his spare time, Garrett volunteered as a coach for Oswego youth lacrosse and basketball teams. He was a counselor for the St. Lawrence University Lacrosse Camp. He was a positive role model and was adored by the kids he coached. He was also proud to be an important part of the family farm.
Garrett will forever be remembered for his incredibly positive attitude, his sense of humor, and his compassion for others. His warm smile was constant and contagious. He cared deeply and showed kindness and genuine interest in everyone around him. Every life was better for having known him.
The world has lost a truly beautiful soul too soon, but heaven has welcomed an angel. We are quite sure he’ll be wearing his Stars and Stripes and showcasing his dance moves in heaven.
Garrett is survived by his loving parents, Judy and John of Oswego, sister MacKenzie of New York City, brother Dylan of Oswego, and adoring pets Fenway and Bubbles; his aunts and uncles, Susan Hudson O’Neil and her husband Ben, of Oakland, CA; Ron Dunsmoor and his wife Darlene, Bill Dunsmoor and his wife Joyce, Tom Dunsmoor and his wife Michelle, all of Oswego, and many cousins.
