Helen M. Murphy, 88 of 54 West Sixth St. in Oswego, joined the Lord in heaven on June 15, 2017.

Mrs. Murphy was born in Oswego, New York, on September 20, 1928, to George and Helen Daly Mullen. She was educated in Oswego schools and has a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education from the State Teachers College, Oswego, NY. Helen was an active member in CLIO Sorority.

What made Helen so special was her boundless energy, her charismatic attitude and contagious compassion that touched so many people in a positive way.

She was a gifted and talented teacher who taught many years in second grade at Kingsford Park School and in other teaching roles throughout the District.

Helen was predeceased in 2002 by her loving husband, Peter James Murphy and in 2016 by her wonderful traveling companion of ten years, Frank J. Musante.

She is survived by her daughter, Maureen Murphy-Geist of Swedesboro, NJ, two granddaughters, Lauren and Lindsey Geist of NJ, one sister Martha Sarr of Colorado Springs, CO and many nieces and nephews including, Cris and Ben Metcalf of Rochester, Karen Kelling of Colorado Springs and Nanette ForKah of Manahawkin, NJ.

Helen had many friends including Terese Bonner and her family, Nora Grose and her family, as well as Lynne Maitland and her family of Toronto and her fantastic neighbors.

Helen loved travel, fashion, reading, shopping and spending time with her family.

Through her inspiring outlook and kind personality, Helen left behind unforgettable memories and lessons that will positively impact everyone who knew her.

A sincere friend to all, the best grandmother and exceptional mother, Helen Murphy will forever live with us in spirit. She changed people’s lives for the better. Helen was greatly loved and will be very missed. She will be looking down on us with a huge smile for the rest of our lives, so very proud of all our accomplishments.

Funeral services will by Tuesday 9:30AM from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 10:00AM in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Calling hours Monday 4-7PM at the funeral home.
