Judge Karen Brandt (R-Oswego County) today formally launched her bid for Supreme Court Justice in the Fifth Judicial District.

Brandt, a lifelong resident of Oswego County who was first elected to the bench as Town Justice in 2011 and is still currently serving, has unmatched experience protecting our personal rights while presiding over criminal offenses, vehicle and traffic matters, small claims, evictions and civil matters.

Brandt also currently serves as Support Magistrate in the 5th Judicial District. In this role, she’s demonstrated the ability to work with both attorneys and parents during emotional and stressful child support and spousal support proceedings.

“Being honest, capable, and ethical. These values guide me each day serving our community,” said Brandt. “My career has been defined by being a fair, honest, and experienced public servant. No matter the court, no matter the case, my duty and passion is ensuring justice and fairness. I've practiced this my entire career - and I'm ready to take that with me as your next State Supreme Court Justice.”

“As the only woman running for Supreme Court in our community, I think it’s important for the constituents of Oswego, Onondaga, Herkimer, Lewis, Jefferson and Oneida to have someone that brings different perspectives to the Bench,” said Brandt.

Brandt is a graduate of SUNY Oneonta and Syracuse University College of Law. She’s served as a Judge for the Town of Schroeppel since 2012. Brandt also served as a Family Court Attorney from 2009 until 2014 when she became a Support Magistrate. She resides in Phoenix with her husband, Scott Brown.

"I have appeared as a lawyer before Judge Karen Brandt. She is an experienced Justice who has proven that she has the temperament and qualifications to be our next Supreme Court Justice," said attorney and former Supreme Court Justice Robert F. Julian, Esq. “I believe the people of Oneida, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Onondaga, and Oswego Counties would be well served if they elect her in November."

"Over the years, I have found Judge Brandt to be fair and objective in her rulings and decisions as both a Town Justice and Support Magistrate,” said attorney Mary Felasco, Esq. “She has the dedication and character that I want in a Supreme Court Justice as a practicing attorney. Judge Brandt possesses the qualifications needed to be a great Supreme Court Justice in the Fifth Judicial District."
