City of Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow proclaimed March as National Nutrition Month in the Port City.

“It is no news that Oswego County ranks poorly for behaviors that adversely impact your health,” observed Mayor Barlow. “The City supports this effort to draw attention and educate our community about healthy eating habits for your lifestyle and other practices that can successfully reducing the risk of chronic health issues related to sedentary and unhealthy lifestyle habits.”

“Our Food Service/Nutrition Department at St. Luke takes this opportunity to encourage our community to return to the basics of healthful eating,” said Bernice Strother, RD, CDN, Clinical Nutrition Manager at St. Luke Health Services. “We encourage everyone to adopt a healthy lifestyle that is focused on consuming fewer calories, making informed food choices and getting daily exercise in order to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, reduce the risk of chronic disease and promote overall health.“

The key is determining the lifestyle balance that provides the body what it needs, while still allowing room for the foods and activities we enjoy most. “The secret to achieving this,” said St. Luke Health Services Registered Dietitian Scott Pepperman, “is to find balance and create sustainable eating and physical activity plans that fit individual tastes and routines.”
