NBT Bank of Oswego Supports Local Independence EffortsWritten by Contributor
Community connections matter. Especially when your family member needs help. Barb Bateman, Vice President of NBT Bank of Oswego, knew about the ARISE Ramp Program from her community participation. When Barb's mother became ill, ARISE was able to help her mother get in and out of her home by putting in a ramp. When it was time for the employees of NBT Bank of Oswego to pick a charity to benefit from their "blue jeans day" fundraising, Barb shared her story and suggested ARISE. On May 8th, the NBT Bank of Oswego employees generously presented a check to support the ARISE Ramps Program.
“Members of our community sometimes find themselves in need of a ramp to come and go from their home,” says Sabine Ingerson, Regional Director of ARISE in Oswego. “Without a ramp, people are sometimes forced to go into a nursing home or other facility or cannot come home from those facilities. Support from local community partners, like NBT Bank, has made it possible for us to continue to assist our neighbors in regaining their independence and we are so grateful.”
The ARISE Ramp Program in Oswego County receives no government funding. Utilizing volunteers, and with support from community partners, businesses, civic groups, and individuals, ARISE provides ramps for Oswego County residents who cannot afford them. Last year we completed 50 ramps, both wooden and aluminum, thanks to our generous supporters and volunteers.
