Co-founded by Jerritt Wahrendorf and Meghan Colianno, the two have traveled all over the country together and discovered countless artists that they thought might be worth bringing into town to present.
"Providing a mature and relaxed atmosphere where folks can experience world class performances by nationally and internationally recognized artists is what Meg and I strive for," Wahrendorf said. "This is about creating a cultural scene. We want people to be able to engage in the performances, carry on fruitful conversations with each other and most of all... have fun.
Being a drummer himself, Wahrendorf is steadfast in providing a spotlight for his gifted songwriter friends to shine in, so there is always a local artist playing before each national headliner.
2Songbirds also attaches a unique cultural theme or a charitable fundraiser to most of their shows.
"So on top of seeing Fred Eaglesmith, folks might get a chance to bid on a pie for Operation Smile or while juke-jiving to Nashville rockabilly legends, Hillbilly Casino, the audience will be able to donate, raffle and or buy BBQ chicken dinners to aid an 8-year-old Oswegonian named Trevor Mercier in his battle with leukemia." Wahrendorf said.
Other 2SBP events include a Summer Solstice Celebration featuring a weekend pass good for two shows and free Guinness Stew; a Halloween masquerade costume party; and a semi-formal gala in late December known as the Hibernian Holiday Ball.
At their first event this past February, these two songbirds hosted indie-folk icons, Brown Bird, to play for an enthusiastic crowd at the Oswego Ancient Order of the Hibernians (AOH) where Wahrendorf is co-hall director.
The next 2Songbirds live event at the AOH, or "The Hibes," will feature iconoclast, acclaimed singer-songwriter and bandleader Fred Eaglesmith, who now boasts 19 albums with the January 2012 release of 6 Volts. As he has doggedly gone his own way as an independent musical artist, Eaglesmith has also enjoyed such high profile rewards in recent years as having his songs covered by country superstars Toby Keith, Alan Jackson and Miranda Lambert, among many other accomplishments. Doors open at 7 p.m. with local talent Dave Hawthorn takes the stage promptly at 7:30 p.m., performing a set of his original music.
Advance tickets are available at the AOH, Midnight Sun and Zink Shirts or through their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/2SongbirdsPresents.
