Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) Nutrition Services took its partnership with the 2017 Subaru Share the Love Event ® to new heights recently as it gathered Subaru lovers for a special aerial photograph.

“Share the Love is a partnership with Meals on Wheels of America and local Meals on Wheels programs across the country,” explained OCO Nutrition Services Program Coordinator Bridget Dolbear. “Participation in Share the Love is an excellent way for us to increase awareness of OCO Nutrition Services and raise additional funds to benefit our home delivered meal program.”

OCO’s Meals on Wheels program provides daily nutritious meals, nurturing companionship and critical safety checks on homebound seniors. Each donation helps enable seniors to age with independence and dignity in their own homes, where they want to be. Since its inception Subaru of America and its participating retailers, through the Share the Love Event ® have donated more than $94 million to help those in need throughout the country. Additionally, Share the Love has helped deliver more than 1.7 meals to America’s seniors.
As part of Share the Love OCO Nutrition Services held a number of activities and events at its dining and activity centers and beyond, including a Senior Giving Tree at Kinney Drug in Mexico, food drives, delivering Blizzard Bags and making holiday calls to each person receiving meals, participation in the Mexico Christmas Parade, and a unique photo that captured the essence of the program.

“When we realized how many of our employees own a Subaru, OCO employee Betsy Copps suggested we arrange the cars to spell L-O-V-E. Candra McFarland-Gawarecki, also an OCO employee, coordinated the event and with the help of even more OCO employees, the Fulton Fire Department and photographers John DeRousie and Jerry Maher, the result was a tremendous aerial photograph. It was a great idea and we even received accolades from Subaru!” explained Dolbear.

OCO’s home Delivered Meal service is funded in part through Oswego County Office for the Aging and United Way of Greater Oswego County. Additionally OCO’s Nutrition Services administers six Dining and Activity Centers where seniors can enjoy a hot, nutritious noontime meal and visit with friends. These centers are located in Fulton, Mexico, Hannibal, Parish, Phoenix and Cleveland.

OCO, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency that has been supporting communities throughout Oswego County since 1966. A member agency of the United Way of Greater Oswego County, OCO provides more than 50 vital services throughout 100 separate locations. For more information, visit www.oco.org. Did you know?
