This Earth Day, Sunday, April 22nd at 2:00 pm, the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center will host Peeps in Pools.

The clacking of Wood frogs and the clear one-note calls of Spring Peepers are an invitation to explore the magical woodland nurseries of spring – vernal pools. Mole salamanders and frogs emerge from winter hibernation in early spring and migrate to these critical, short-lived breeding pools. Participants will enjoy a slide presentation with naturalist Pat Carney on the characteristics of vernal pools and the species that need them. Then honor Earth Day by exploring some of the Center's pools to search for these amphibians and other interesting inhabitants.

Peeps in Pools is a hands on program designed for people of all ages. Water-proof boots or shoes that can get wet and muddy are highly recommended. Dress for an early spring outing. There is a $4.00 program fee per person or a family rate of $12.00 which will be collected on the day of the program.

Peeps in Pools is not designed for organized groups. To arrange a guided group program, call the Oswego County 4-H Program at 963-7286, ext. 400. Amboy 4-H Environmental Educational Center is located at 748 Route 183, between Routes 13 and 69 near Williamstown.
