Phillip Cady has announced his candidacy for Oswego County Sheriff and is currently seeking the endorsement of the Republican and Conservative Parties.

Cady, a graduate of SUNY Oswego with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Justice, resides in the City of Oswego with his wife Beth Nicholson-Cady and their three children. Cady recently retired as a Sergeant - Station Commander from the New York State Police with over 20 years of law enforcement experience which also included time with the Cities of Fulton and Oswego Police Departments. During his time with the State Police, Cady worked in the Fulton, Pulaski, and Hastings Barracks..

Cady grew up in the Town of Minetto where he spent 15 years volunteering with the Minetto Fire Department, where he served in various ranks up to Assistant Chief. Cady also spent time as a member of the Minetto Planning Board. Cady is currently a member of the Oswego County Child Advocacy Center Board of Directors and the Oswego Minor Hockey Association Board of Directors.

Cady stated if elected Sheriff some of his objectives include improving fiscal responsibility and shifting resources within the department to combat the heroin and methamphetamine epidemic. He also intends to enhance the relationship with the District Attorney’s Office. Cady stated one way he would achieve this is by implementing a long needed video conferencing system. The system would allow defense attorneys to meet with their clients faster, thus allowing the DA’s office to handle cases in a timely fashion.

Cady further said he would increase efficiency within the jail. For example, Cady stated he intended to work with local justices to start coordinating weekend work programs, as well as re-structure the transport of inmates to courts. Cady also suggested there was a need to bolster relationships with local school districts to coordinate more responsive safety plans.
