Port City Car Care open for business

Written by

John and Karen Furlong, of Oswego, embarked on a family business called Port City Car Care, located in the former Carson's Car Mart at 500 W. First St.

John Furlong began working with Jeff Carson, eventually starting his own business alongside his wife, Karen.

"We've always wanted to get involved with the shop and my husband has done mechanic-related work for about 30 years now. We decided to get involved where the Carson's left off, " Karen Furlong said.

The Furlongs opened Port City Car Care in Oct. 2012. John is the owner and performs the mechanical while Karen is in charge of the administrative and office work. The company also employs another mechanic, Neil Gosch.
The building is spacious and allows various operations to be done daily. The business takes appointments through phone calls and online through their Facebook or web page.

According to the Furlongs, Port City Car Care offers quality commitment and appreciates every customer's business. The business is going well and the couple said between the office and auto care work, they are busy at all hours of the week.

"We do basically anything from alignments, brakes, motor, transmissions to anything else repair related," Karen said. "We've repaired a lot of National Grid vehicles and Time Warner vans also. In the future, maybe we'll expand to an even larger space."

     The repair shop is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, Monday-Friday; and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday.
