It is with great sadness that the family of Robert D. Smith announce his sudden death on June 21, 2018 at the age of 57; he was surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He is best described first and foremost as a proud and dedicated Father, a native of Oswego NY, a retired City of Oswego Firefighter of 25 years, an avid deer hunter with a love for the big woods and great passion for racing.

He will be deeply missed by his Son & best friend, Cole Smith. His parents Rob and Peggy Smith and his brother Chris Smith and Amy; all of Oswego NY. Sisters - Peg Haynes and husband Bob Haynes of Kirkville NY and Jennifer Grinnals and husband Jeff Grinnals of Liverpool NY. Also, Cole’s Mom and great friend Laurie Bush.

Nieces and nephews include Bobby Haynes and Cory and Ellie Grinnals; who he loved so much.

Known as “Smitty” to so many, he will be forever remembered by his Firefighter Brothers, the entire racing family, his many hunting partners and by all of those that he greatly impacted throughout his lifetime.

There are people that cross our paths that change our lives forever, make you a better person or leave you with treasurable life long memories, Smitty was that guy.

Please join us in honoring his memory on Tuesday, June 26th from 3:00pm -7:00pm for calling hours and a Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 27th at 10:00am.

All arrangements will take place at the Nelson Funeral Home in Oswego, NY.
