"With Rudy's Lakeside, we have created a marketing opportunity for local small business to take advantage of," said Victoria Usherwood Gailinas, co-founder of I Heart Oswego and its marketing director. "We have created fliers advertising Oswego's small businesses that Rudy's will be inserting in the bottom of the boxes they serve their famous food in."
Family owned since 1946, Rudy's Lakeside is particularly noted for its Texas Hot Sauce and fresh seafood. According to owners, Jason and Julie Livesey, Rudy's has its own mission of supporting area small business by providing its signature food with ingredients bought locally, such as meat from Bosco's and Geers and fresh produce from Ontario Orchards.
"We love to promote local business in the community," Julie Livesey said. "This new collaboration with I Heart Oswego will be a great way for local businesses to get their name out there."
According to Livesey, their customer base is not just Oswego County, but spreads as far as Onondaga and Jefferson counties and also includes many boaters and visitors to the area.
"With Rudy's being a destination on the lake, we are hoping these inserts will drive people to check out Oswego," she said.
That is what Gailinas is hoping as well. The fliers will begin to be inserted into the food boxes in May and the advertisers on the fliers will change each month throughout Rudy's season to give more business a chance to take advantage of his program.
"I Heart will also be advertising on each flier using a QR (Quick Response) code on our ads so we can track the response to the insert for the businesses," Gailinas said.
She explained that a QR code is similar to a bar code and can be read by most Smart Phones.
"All you need is a phone with a camera and Internet," she said.
Scanning the QR code will bring scanners directly to a particular page at iHeartOswego.com.
"I Heart is always looking for more ways to bring business to locally owned and operated establishments through the use of today's technology," Gailinas noted.
She said this is just one part of an overall I Heart Oswego marketing program called the "Business to Business Community Projects."
Other projects include a booklet, "Oswego: From Sunrise to Sunset," slated for release in June. The publication will lead the reader from business to business, traveling the city and highlighting all of the sights, sounds, entertainment, food and fun the Port City has to offer and where to find it from sun up to sun down.
I Heart Oswego plans to get them primarily into the hands of SUNY Oswego students through their dorms and through the property owners who house students.
"They will also be a valuable asset to new people moving into Oswego," Gailinas pointed out.
The other project is a special brochure which will be available throughout Oswego's Harborfest with information for festival goers on what businesses are open, what they feature and their hours of operation.
