Jason Simmons Racing and team partner Lindsey Aggregates have joined together with Mucci Motorsports and winged sprint car veteran Joe Trenca to field a second entry for the 62nd running of the Budweiser International Classic 200 at Oswego Speedway on Sunday, September 2.

Trenca, the grandson of longtime Supermodified car owner Ron Mucci, will bring the family name back to Oswego this Labor Day weekend for the most prestigious Supermodified race in the world behind the wheel of a John Colloca built, JSR machine, driven in the early part of the season at Oswego by Tyler Thompson.

“It has always been a dream of mine to run the Classic,” said Trenca. “My grandfather fielded cars at Oswego for years, and I have never missed a Classic as a spectator. It’s just a special race to me. We have run a lot of big sprint car races, but this one holds a special place in my heart. It’s a great opportunity in a real good car with real good equipment.”

With JSR and Lindsey Aggregates recent purchase of the former Tim Devendorf Hawk Chassis for lead driver Thompson, the door was open for a second entry into the Classic with team owner Jason Simmons moving quickly to solidify a second driver.

“Our lead focus is with Tyler (Thompson) in the Hawk Chassis, so we wanted to make sure we had everything in line with Joe (Trenca) and the second car as soon as possible so we can be prepared for the entire weekend,” said JSR team owner, Jason Simmons.

Classic Weekend will include Thompson wheeling the former Graham Racing Super in the Saturday, September 1 winged ISMA Supermodified event, before Trenca takes the controls on Classic Sunday.

“Joe will have an opportunity to test the car without the wing on Monday of Classic week, before we put it back to winged trim for the Saturday ISMA show,” said Simmons. “As soon as Tyler is done with the car on Saturday we will begin the transition back to non-winged trim for Joe to qualify the car into the 200 on Sunday.”

Known as the “Salt City Outlaw”, Trenca is no stranger to Supermodified action at Oswego, as the Clay, NY driver became the youngest pilot to ever qualify for Oswego’s ISMA Supernationals during Classic Weekend in 2013.

Since then, Trenca has continued to excel in 360 and 410-winged sprint car racing with multiple World of Outlaws starts, including a career best Hard Charger effort at Rolling Wheels Raceway in 2015 which saw the driver of the No. 98 move from 22nd to 13th.

Last season, Trenca landed two runner-up finishes in 360 sprint competitions at McKean County Speedway in Smethport, PA and at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY while also posting his best career 410 finish at Outlaw Speedway with the All-Star Circuit of Champions, coming home in 9th.

So far in 2018, Trenca has posted four top ten finishes including a 10th place 410 effort at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA after winning the night’s B-Main.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity that Jason Simmons Racing and Lindsey Aggregates are providing along with Mucci Motorsports and Longley Jones Companies,” said Trenca. “This was nothing I expected and it sort of came out of the blue, but we were able to put a deal together and I think it’ll be a great opportunity for everyone involved.”

With Oswego Speedway’s Mr. Supermodified event in the rear-view mirror and with a week off at the Steel Palace, Jason Simmons Racing and driver Tyler Thompson will next be in action at Sandusky Speedway for the prestigious winged ISMA Hy-Miler Nationals.

The two-day event will be Thompson’s first behind the wheel of an ISMA Supermodified with the Fast 40 feature event on Friday, July 27 and the Hy-Miler Nationals 100 on Saturday, July 28.
