The Oswego State women's basketball team fell to Oneonta by a score of 46-38 on Tuesday night at the Max Ziel Gymnasium. With the loss, Oswego drops to 2-6 (0-2 SUNYAC) on the season while Oneonta goes to 6-2 (2-1 SUNYAC).

Oswego got off to a strong start, scoring the game's first six points on a pair of free throws from Courtney Ameele and two layups from Rachael Windhausen. Defensively, the Laker zone held the Red Dragons scoreless for the first 5:22 of the quarter. Oneonta would break through with a couple of buckets before a Raiven Encarnacion three-pointer and Windhausen jumper would extend the Laker lead to 11-4. The teams traded baskets before a seven-point spurt by Oneonta would tie the game up at 13 after one quarter.

Oneonta would carry its momentum into the second quarter with a layup off a Laker turnover to grab its first lead of the contest. Much like the Red Dragons in the first quarter, the Laker offense would go cold in the second as Oneonta extended out to a 20-13 lead. Oswego would finally break the run on a layup by Encarnacion with four minutes left in the quarter. After another Red Dragon bucket, a three by Ameele and a breakaway layup by Windhausen would cut the lead to 22-20 at the half.

Ameele would start the second half off by tying it up on a layup shortly into the first minute. The Red Dragons would answer right back with 11 of the next 12 points to push out to a 33-23 lead halfway through the quarter. Encarnacion would end the run with a three-pointer with two minutes left and Ameele would hit one of her own to cut the lead back to four. A pair of Red Dragon buckets in the final minute helped Oneonta to a 38-29 advantage heading into the final ten-minute stanza.

The fourth quarter began with more tight defense by the Lakers as they held Oneonta scoreless for the first three and a half minutes while scoring five straight points. After a Red Dragon timeout, Oneonta would go on a 9-4 run over the final six minutes to seal the win.

Encarnacion led the Lakers with 13 points while Ameele chipped in with 11. Zana Dillard had a game-high 12 rebounds and Windhausen contributed eight points and eight rebounds.

The Lakers are back in action on Friday when they travel west for a tilt with the Bengals of Buffalo State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
